Venezuelan teachers train in insect specimen mounting techniques

The Educational Center for Science Teaching in La Guaira State held a workshop on insect specimen mounting techniques, with the aim of continuing the training of Venezuelan teachers in various scientific disciplines.

This training activity was managed by the La Guaira Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology (Fundacite), the National Center for Chemical Technology (CNTQ) and the Guidance Group of the Faculty of Science of the Central University of Venezuela (Group Physis).

13 teachers participated in the workshop and it was taught by the head of the Physics Group, Jorman Villarroel.

During the activity, attendees were able to analyze insects and other arthropods of health importance. In addition to interacting with real species through practices.

This training day meets the objectives of the Great Mission of Science, Technology and Innovation “Dr. Humberto Fernández Morán”, created by the Bolivarian Government to continue promoting “scientific, technological and innovative culture as elements that strengthen ecosystems that encourage national production, building common well-being under the fundamental principles of the ethics of life and the well-being of the people.”

Its importance to science

Entomology is the branch of zoology devoted to the scientific study of insects. Professionals who specialize in this field are known as entomologists, and they are people trained in systematic observation and analysis in disciplines such as comparative biology, which allows for taxonomic classifications.

Similarly, entomologists study the genetics, morphology, and impact of these species on the evolution of the planet, as well as the relationship of insects to ecosystems and how biotic and abiotic factors can influence the evolution of their populations.
