They recognize the role of the University of Medical Sciences in Holguin

The role played by the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin (UCMHo) in training health professionals was highlighted on May 15 on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the founding of the institution.

In the presence of the highest political, governmental and health authorities in the Eastern Region, a political and cultural ceremony was held in honor of history and highlighting the imprint of the House of Graduate Studies, which has the third largest enrollment in the country and has 23 accredited specializations for graduate studies, 21 of which are with distinction and two are accredited.

In this activity, the most experienced professionals who left their mark on the University Center were honored with the “15th Anniversary” medal, among them Doctor of Science Pura Avilés Cruz, Labor Hero of the Republic of Cuba.

With the same encouragement, health institutions that represent important scenarios in the training of future doctors, nurses and health technicians in Holguín, such as the Vladimir Ilyich Lenin Regional University Hospital, the Octavio de la Concepción y la Pedraga Pediatric Hospital, and the Octavio de la Concepción y la Pedraga Pediatric Hospital, were honored. , surgical doctor Lucía Iñiguez and military officer Fermin Valdes Dominguez.

The special moment was the presentation of the Carlos J. Finlay to six Doctors of Science with a rich research career and to two institutions: the Hereditary Ataxia Research and Rehabilitation Center and the UCMHo itself.

During the ceremony, Dr. Galina Galceran Chacón, Dean of the University, praised the Holguin Center’s pride in graduating more than 37,700 students throughout its existence, including more than 2,600 students from 69 countries.

He also highlighted the integration of young university students into society and their participation in more than 50 social impact projects aimed at solving major health problems.

The University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, founded in 2009, today welcomes more than seven thousand and 900 students, consists of a faculty, four branches and two university campuses and manages the improvement of postgraduate studies and research in dozens of national priority projects.
