Santiago de los Caballeros.-?President Luis Abinader, accompanied by Public Works Secretary Delin Ascension, on Saturday presided over the opening ceremony of the new entrance to the city of Santiago, a work built at a cost of more than 1,108 million pesos.
Minister Ascension explained that the works forming the entrance to Santiago are part of the comprehensive reconstruction, expansion and modernization project of the Duarte Highway.
The work includes improving and expanding the road, beautifying the entire road, constructing drainage channels and water sewers, lighting, and removing high-voltage towers.
As well as the expropriation of land and improvements, as well as the clearing of illegal professions and improvised returns that affected the environment and formed an unregulated urban environment.
“This project represents the Dominican government’s most important investment in road infrastructure work, because it is the country’s main means of communication, passes directly through 14 provinces, and directly affects the economic and social development of our nation,” Ascension stressed.
He said that the section of the highway that includes the entrance to Santiago is eight kilometers long, and that from the entrance of the Hodelba Hotel to the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration, the road has been transformed into an urban highway, with six lanes, three in each direction, and 28.8 meters wide.
The entire route is illuminated with turns that ensure the safety of drivers and passengers, with modern signs to guide, warn and regulate the heavy flow of vehicles passing through this road.
“At crossing points with traffic lights, pedestrian safety and an orderly movement of vehicles in the distributors exiting towards Circunvalación Street or towards Cibao International Airport are guaranteed, and in some sections a marginal relief road is guaranteed, with sidewalks and curbs, he explained, adding that the integration of local traffic with the rapid flow that It turns on the highway entrance road.
The official said that the transformation and modernization of the new street provides the heart city with a first-world urban environment.
