The Jewish community in Chile demands that musician Roger Waters be banned from inciting “hatred and anti-Semitism”

(CNN Spanish) –– The Jewish Community of Chile (CJCh) reported on Friday that it had filed a request for reconsideration and an appeal for support, after the Santiago Court of Appeal rejected its request for protection to prevent musician Roger Waters from “using elements or making comments that are offensive to the music.” “Incites hatred and anti-Semitism” during the concerts that the Pink Floyd leader will perform on November 25 and 26 at the Monumental Stadium in the Chilean capital. They also ask the production company DG Medios, responsible for the event, to do what is necessary in the same sense.

“Roger Waters is known for apologizing for Nazism and spreading hate speech,” the CJCh stressed on Friday in a message on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

Waters has defended himself against these kinds of accusations, saying that the elements of his shows that have been questioned are a “parody” and a symbol of “opposition to fascism, injustice and intolerance in all their forms.” CNN has asked Waters’ team for comment on the actions of the Jewish community in Chile, and is awaiting their response.

The court rejected the request for protection filed by lawyer Ariella Agosin because “no facts were stated in the presentation made in these records that could constitute a violation of the constitutional guarantees provided for in Article 20 of the Political Constitution of the Republic.”

CNN is also trying to contact production company DG Medios to find out its position regarding CJCh’s request.

Last May, US anti-Semite Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt condemned Roger Waters and what she called his “despicable distortion of the Holocaust” after the musician wore a Nazi uniform on stage during a concert.
