In an official ceremony, the Villa Clara authors who have obtained the most important scientific results, and who are deserving of the National Awards of the Cuban Academy of Sciences for the year 2023, were honored, in addition to the representatives of the entities, academics and young researchers, who have obtained the certificate that accredits them in the period between 2024 and 2029.
Dr. Luis Velázquez Pérez, President of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba, highlighted the imprint of the scientific community in Villa Clara, the stronghold of the entire country.
Some of the winners shared the results obtained that contribute to the development of Cuban science. Among them were Alberto Taboada Crespo, full professor and senior researcher at the Computer Research Center; Noel Taboada Lugo, second-level specialist in clinical genetics and doctor of medical sciences; Jesús Ríos Garrett, psychologist and director of the Center for Physical Culture and Sports Studies at the Faculty of Physical Culture of the Central University “Marta Abreu” in Las Villas; Lynette Molina Rodríguez, head of the research project “Professionalization of Journalism, a socio-critical approach to improving journalistic practice in Villa Clara” at the University of California; and Emery Valdivia Martínez, professor in the Department of History of Marxism-Leninism at the University of California, responsible for the project “Formation of a Culture of Peace in the Cuban Educational System.”
Academic certificates and seals were also awarded to the members of the Villa Clara Chapter in the 2024-2029 teaching practice at the Cuban Academy of Sciences.
In accordance with Julio Antonio Mella’s quote that “every modern university tends to a just and lofty goal that honors beauty: the advancement of science…”, the Serafín Ruiz de Zarate Ruiz University of Medical Sciences and the Central University “Marta Abreu” of Las Villas have been recognized as the most outstanding entities in producing award-winning results in 2023.
Finally, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Cuban Academy of Sciences, the regional delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in Villa Clara and the universities of the region, which among its objectives is to unify efforts for the scientific and social development of the country.
