Baghdad – The Iraqi government stated that the Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi He survived an assassination attempt by a drone and was unhurt.
The government said in a statement issued on Sunday evening that the drone had tried to strike the prime minister’s home in the fortified Green Zone.
Baghdad residents heard an explosion followed by gunfire heading into the Green Zone, a heavily guarded area in the Iraqi capital where foreign Iraqi embassies and government offices are located.
The statement of the security forces, published by state media, stated that the failed assassination attempt was carried out by “a drone that tried to hit his house in the Green Zone.” He added that the prime minister was unharmed and in good health.
“The security forces are taking the necessary measures regarding this failed attempt,” he said.
Supporters of pro-Iranian Shiite militias have been camping outside the Green Zone for about a month after they rejected the results of Iraq’s parliamentary elections in which they were the biggest losers.
