Secretary of the Department of Transport and Public Works (DTOP), Elaine M. Wallace Vega, along with George Trose, executive director of the Maritime Transport Authority (ATM), announced the suspension of cargo and passenger travel to the Islands Municipality. Vieques and Culebra starts Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
“As a tropical storm warning has been issued for Puerto Rico, it is important that we all insure our families, pets and property. We urge those involved to pay special attention to this issue and make their proper coordination, “said Wallace Vega.
For his part, the managing director of the ATM said, “Tomorrow, Sunday, there will be only one emergency flight from Ziba to Culebra and Vue at 8:30 am.”
“Once the voyages reach their destinations, the ships will return to the mainland at 10:00 a.m. for departure cases from both islands. This decision was made after a meeting with the U.S. Coast Guard, who authorized the voyages,” the ATM managing director said.
Trose noted that he will be notified when the regular itinerary resumes and when the maritime transport service resumes.
