The 10th Scientific Conference on Earth Sciences at the University of Alicante focuses on geomorphology

Another year, the University of Alicante hosts the 10th edition of Earth Science Scientific Conference On 6 and 7 October 2021. On this occasion, the meeting focuses on geomorphology to show the diversity of methods offered by this discipline, which are closely related to aspects such as climate change, spatial planning, natural heritage, geological hazards or restoration of the natural environment, among others.

These scientific publishing days, as well as the university community, are open to the general public and consist of several conferences in which university professors and specialists of recognized national standing participate.

Organized by the UA Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with the College of Science and the Office of the Vice President for Culture, Sports and University Extension, the conference will begin on Wednesday, October 6 at 4:30 pm. “Ramon Martin Mateo” in the Alumni Hall of the Faculty of Law.

Session One: Submerged Volcanic Tube

After the opening ceremony, UNED Professor of External Geodynamics Javier Lario Gómez will speak on “Geomorphology of the Submerged Volcanic Tube: Tunnel of Atlantis (Lanzarote)”. Next, Javier Pérez Taruela, a researcher from the Geospatial Oceanography Group at the University of Salamanca, will speak on “Climate Changes and Landscapes of the Quaternary.”

On Thursday 7, starting at 5 pm, sessions will continue with Professor Jose Francisco Martin Duque, University of Complutense University of Madrid and his conference “Geomorphological Restoration of Excavation Transformed Spaces”. The conference will conclude with a session on “Assessment of the Hazard Associated with Geomorphological Processes through Drilling Technology” by Francisco Gutierrez Santaolala, Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Zaragoza.
