On World Refugee Day, a US Ambassador to Ecuador Michael J. Fitzpatrick, announced that the government of that country would provide more than $25 million in new humanitarian aid to “support displaced Venezuelans in Ecuador,” as migrants or refugees.

This amount is part of the funding announced by the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas Greenfield, on June 17, in International Conference of Donors in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants.

Funding from the US Department of State will support the efforts of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), to provide urgent and vital support, including protection education, shelter, food and psychosocial services, and to facilitate the long-term integration of refugees into host communities,” the embassy said in a statement.
