After more than a decade of accompanying many users, Chromecast will no longer be produced. Google has decided to end the production of this device and instead launch a new product that will replace it with a more complete but more expensive system.

First launched in 2013, Chromecast has quickly become a must-have device for those who want to enjoy digital content on their TVs in a simple and affordable way.Starting at $35, this HDMI dongle allowed users to stream content from their smartphones directly to their TV, revolutionizing the way we consume digital media.

But after the development of this technology, the company decided to launch a product that contains many functions and with higher accuracy, To compete with products like the Apple TV 4k and Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K.

The first generation Chromecast was a huge success, offering a simple and affordable way to turn any TV into a smart TV. Over the years, Google has released more versions of the device: the second generation arrived in 2015, the third generation in 2018, and finally the Chromecast with Google TV in 2020.

This latest model included a remote control and its own interface, eliminating the need for a smartphone to operate it, making it a more accessible device for many users.

However, despite its popularity and success, Google decided to discontinue this product line. In a recent post, the company announced that it will be “ending production of Chromecast,” and that while the devices will remain available “until supplies last,” no more units will be manufactured.

Google has promised to continue providing software and security updates for the latest models, but it did not specify which ones. Therefore, users will have to wait to find out when support for the device they have at home ends.

Instead of Chromecast, Google will launch the Google TV Streamer (4K), which will go on sale on September 24 for $99.99. This new device adopts a set-top box format, similar to products like the Apple TV 4K or the Amazon Fire TV Cube, abandoning the HDMI dongle format that characterized the Chromecast.

This new product offers several technical improvements compared to Chromecast with Google TV. Its specifications include a 22% faster processor, 4GB of RAM (double that of its predecessor) and 32GB of internal storage. Additionally, it is compatible with advanced picture and sound technologies such as Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, promising a superior audio-visual experience.

Other features include 4K HDR support at 60fps, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, HDMI 2.1, USB-C, and Ethernet.However, other cheaper devices have better connectivity, such as Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K Max, which offers WiFi 6.

The device comes with a new remote control that has been redesigned to provide a better grip and has a customizable button. Maintain interaction with the Assistant to make voice requests to control content on the TV.
