Lionel Scaloni (Argentina), Ricardo Gareca (Chile), Fernando Batista (Venezuela) and Marcelo Bielsa (Chile) were suspended for one match without training for late departures during their final two halves of the matches. The respective national associations were also fined $15,000.
CONMEBOL explained, in a statement, that the strategists were suspended for one match due to non-compliance with articles 104 and 145 of the tournament regulations. It is considering the measures that will be taken in the event that teams leave “later than the scheduled start or resumption time of the match.”
The reason could be structural details.
For CONMEBOL, the reason for the sanctions is delay on the part of the coaches. Lionel Scaloni was not able to be present for his team’s victory over Peru, but before the match, the coach of the two-colored team said that the reason is a little deeper and is due to the structural details of stadiums in the United States.
