NEW YORK – Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday that senior centers in New York City will reopen on June 14 and outdoor activities will resume immediately.
“The return of Senior Centers means a lot to many of our families, a positive place, a rich place, a place where people get fellowship, great food and health care activities, support, and support for physical and mental health care,” the mayor said during the conference.
Centers will be open to both vaccinated and unvaccinated people, so physical distancing rules will continue.
The news comes as New York City hit its lowest positivity rate since stats were released 14 months ago.
De Blasio described the unprecedented positivity rate of 0.83% for all five boroughs as an “important milestone” as he declared it another major evidence that “New York City is coming back strong.”
