Eastern Airlines flight carrying migrants from Texas to New York diverted due to weather

(CNN) —An Eastern Airlines flight carrying migrants from Texas to New York was diverted to Philadelphia this Tuesday due to weather, according to a statement from the city of Philadelphia.

Before landing at Philadelphia International Airport, the plane was John F. Kennedy International Airport.

“We believe some or all of the passengers are migrants and are working to help them reach their final destination,” the city's statement said.

About 200 migrants were on board, according to CNN affiliate WPVI, citing the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management.

The station also reported that passengers were transported by bus to New York City on other routes.

Earlier on Tuesday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams addressed the influx of immigrants into the city.

“Governor Abbott wants to destabilize cities and send thousands of immigrants and asylum seekers here,” Adams said. “I need to get out of this city. The bottom line is that even if we don't get the help we deserve from Washington, D.C., and we need more help from our partners in Albany, it's my duty and responsibility to find solutions. They're coming into this legislative session.
