The Christmas and New Year travel season officially begins on Friday, and Fort Lauderdale and Miami airports in South Florida are expected to receive a record number of travelers, according to local reports.
series Telemundo 51, from the Miami area and its suburbs, warned that to avoid problems and facilitate the process, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has provided useful tips and warnings to passengers.
Between December 21 and January 6, an estimated 2.6 million passengers will arrive at Miami International Airport. Since Friday, wait times at security checkpoints have actually increased, indicating the importance of planning the trip in advance.
Some passengers interviewed agreed on the ease of arriving at the airport on time to avoid long lines and speed up the TSA inspection process.
More delays at Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports
Unexpected delays can cause inconvenience, as happened to Ricardo García, who said they usually wait in line for about 10 minutes, but this Thursday he had a one-hour delay, according to his words to Telemundo.
The Transportation Security Administration reminded passengers of the need to educate themselves about items prohibited on board aircraft. During the presentation, examples were shown, such as shoes with liquid in the heel, which exceed the 3.4 ounce limit for liquids in carry-on baggage.
The TSA has also seized knives, sharp key chains, tools and even firearms in carry-on bags in the past.
Humphrey Montoya, a representative of the TSA, reported that this year they found 86 firearms at checkpoints and asked travelers to be vigilant in this regard.
Likewise, passengers were recommended to enroll in the TSA PreCheck program, available at 200 airports, for benefits such as not having to take off their shoes, belts, and jackets, and leave their computers in their bags.
