In May this year, WhatsApp introduced the “Chat Blocking” feature, which it called “a new layer of security for your conversations.”
WhatsApp confirmed that this feature allows users to protect their most intimate conversations with an additional layer of security.
How does chat blocking work?
If you lock a chat, the conversation will be moved from your inbox to its own folder that can only be accessed using your device password or biometric data (such as your fingerprint). In addition, the content of that chat is automatically hidden in notifications.
This feature is especially useful for people who sometimes have to share their phone with a family member or on occasions when someone grabs your phone at the same moment you have a private conversation.
How do I block chat on WhatsApp?
To block a conversation, simply tap the name of the person or group, then select the “Block” option. To view these chats, slowly swipe up your inbox, and enter your password or biometrics.
Future updates
WhatsApp announced that over the next few months, it will add more options to block chats, such as the ability to lock chats on linked devices and create a custom password for your chats that is different from the one you use on your phone.
Secret code to block conversations
In fact, on November 30, WhatsApp progress The secret code can now be used to protect chats.
They explained that this code is different from the one you use to unlock your phone. This way, no one will be able to see your blocked conversations. You can hide the Blocked Chats folder or leave it visible.
To execute the secret code, you have to press and hold on the chat you want to block, then press “Block Chat”. Next, we must decide which blocking method we prefer: code or biometric authentication.
