WhatsApp has announced that you can now send a voice message that will disappear as soon as it’s heard, a function designed so users can share confidential information “with greater peace of mind” that way too.
The new functionality will be launched worldwide in the coming days, the messaging app said on its blog.
In 2021, WhatsApp introduced a unique display of photos and videos in order to add an extra layer of privacy to users’ messages.
“Today we are happy to announce that you can now send a voice message that will disappear as soon as you hear it,” the messaging app says.
“When you want to read your credit card details to a friend or when you are planning a surprise, you can now also share confidential information through voice messages with greater peace of mind,” he adds.
To maintain “consistency” with single viewing of photos and videos, one-time playback voice messages are clearly marked with a “One Time” icon and can only be played once.
The Meta-owned messaging app points out that as with all personal messages, WhatsApp protects voice messages with end-to-end encryption by default.
“Single View is another example of our continued innovation in privacy,” the company says.
Within this “single view”, media and audio files are not saved in the corresponding partitions/folders of the recipient and cannot be forwarded.
Additionally, if the user does not open the photo, video, or voice message within 14 days of sending it, the file will disappear from the chat.
