A storm is approaching the New York area this weekend, though the system won’t bring snow.

Thursday marks the last cold day of the week, with temperatures below average and reaching nearly 40 degrees in New York City. Light winds may prevail at some places.

Friday’s high will be warm, with temperatures near 50 degrees during the day.

Saturday will be the best day of the weekend with temperatures in the 50s, and although Sunday will reach 60 degrees, that’s when the storm will begin in the afternoon. Sunday’s rain will intensify later in the evening and be heavy at times through the night.

Widespread rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected in the region, which could cause coastal flooding in low-lying and other vulnerable areas. During the Monday morning commute, rain threatens to linger, especially on Long Island.

Wind will also be a factor, with gusts as high as 40 miles per hour. Under these conditions, isolated damage can occur.

Once this system clears, we will see cooler weather throughout next week. Should be sunny, but don’t expect temperatures above 40 degrees until next weekend when more rain threatens.
