(CNN) – U.S. The House of Representatives passed legislation to create an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate January 6 Attack on Capitol.
The final vote was 252-175, and 35 Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the law.
Top Democrats and Republicans in the House Homeland Security Agreement reached an agreement last week to form the commission, breaking a month-long deadlock between House leaders over how to structure the independent committee.
House Homeland Security Speaker Benny Thompson of Mississippi and the group’s highest-ranking Republican Republican, John Gadco, made the announcement Friday.

- Proposed Commission There will be a team of 10 with Thompson and Cutco.
- Half of the commission will be appointed by Democratic leaders in Congress, including the president, and the other half by Republican leaders, including the vice president.

- The Commission will be tasked with publishing a final report by the end of this year, which is a quick timeline for publishing a final product.
- The deal represented a significant bipartisan development, with Speaker Nancy Pelosi first proposing a commission to investigate the uprising on Capitol Hill after the deadly attack.
What’s next: Proponents of her case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy have said they oppose the commission. McConnell did not say whether he would seriously condition fellow Republicans to vote against the law.
Pelosi today strongly recommended that the House pass a select committee to inquire into what led to the January 6 uprising if a vote in the Senate fails to form the committee.
