The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Russia intercepted Ukrainian drones flying over Moscow

(CNN) — Russia thwarted more than 20 drone attacks from Ukraine on its territory in the past day, including its capital, Moscow, authorities said Sunday, a day after it launched the largest drone attack on Kiev since the start of the large-scale invasion.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, during the past 24 hours, 24 Ukrainian drones were destroyed over the territory of Moscow, Tula, Kaluga, Bryansk and Smolensk provinces.

In addition, Russian air defenses intercepted 53 Ukrainian drones during the same period over Ukrainian areas under Russian control, according to the ministry. Among them were Kharkiv, Kherson, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, and the Luhansk self-proclaimed People’s Republic.

The ministry added, “17 HIMARS MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket Systems) missiles were intercepted during the past 24 hours.”

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that no injuries or damage were reported as a result of the remnants of the intercepted drones.

In Russia’s Tula region, one of the drones crashed into a residential building, damaging windows and leaving one person with minor injuries, according to Tula Governor Alexei Dyumin.

A targeted attack on the DRC damaged the power system and left parts of the region without power overnight, according to the head of the Russian-backed DRC, Denis Pushilin.

“The situation is difficult,” Pushilin said via Telegram on Sunday. He added: “Work is continuing, and everything possible is being done to return heat and light to our citizens as quickly as possible.”

The Russian Defense Ministry also said on Sunday that its air defenses destroyed two S-200 anti-aircraft missiles in the air over the Sea of Azov at around 11 a.m. Moscow time (3 a.m. Miami time).
