The “Mexican Monster” is the favorite to beat former champion Demetrius “Boo” Andrade at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

he Former middleweight champion David Benavidez He faces the champion of the two divisions Demetrius Andrade Saturday night at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, with a potential fight against undisputed 168-pound champion Canelo Alvarez on the line.

Benavidez (27-0, 23 KO), 26, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Caleb Plant in March. He has won seven of his last 10 fights by knockout. Benavidez has been looking for a huge fight against Alvarez, and a win on Saturday could be just what he needs. But Benavidez doesn’t take Andrade lightly.

“He’s not an easy opponent. He’s a very technical player,” Benavidez said during a press conference on Tuesday in Los Angeles. “He has a very good defense. But I always find a way to win… I’ll find a way to beat him.”

Andrade (32-0, 19 knockouts), 35, has never fought an elite fighter like Benavidez. His best wins were against Maciej Sulecki in 2019 and Liam Williams in 2021. He has been inactive recently and this fight is only his second in the last two years.

“I fought every style that exists today,” Andrade said during a recent training session in San Carlos, California. “I just have to go and find their weaknesses and figure out what will work.”

“I don’t really know what his strengths are until I get there, but watching him, he likes to overpower his opponents. That’s really all I see… I’ll uncover his weaknesses.”
