The iPhone button to end calls will change

(CNN) – Prepare your thumbs for the next month if you have an iPhone. Apple will make a small change to the phone’s software that will likely affect your muscle memory: The big red “end call” button will move.

The iPhone Phone app will get a number of updates in iOS 17, including an updated design that moves the comment button to the bottom right of the screen, along with other features. The button is currently separate at the bottom center of the app, below the buttons to mute, access the keyboard, or add a call.

The new calling screen, already available for download in beta for developers, has sparked strong reactions among iOS users on social networks: “iOS 17 has a FaceTime button where the final call was before,” one user tweeted. “To hell with muscle memory.”

The change is likely to improve the look of the mobile app and put all features in one place. Apple did not respond to a request for comment.

At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in May, the company showed off a number of new tools coming to iOS 17 that will make calling and messaging more personalized. iPhone users, for example, will be able to design contact “banners,” which are a custom image that will appear when they call or receive a call from someone.

Meanwhile, a new feature called Live Voicemail will transcribe the caller’s message in real time, so users can select to ignore or answer the call, and a tool called NameDrop will allow users to share their contact information by tapping on two iPhones. In addition, FaceTime will allow you to leave video messages when someone is not available to chat.

Other changes coming to iOS 17 include more accurate autocorrect, improvements to dictation in iMessage, and a more responsive Siri. Apple usually releases its latest mobile operating system in September, after its annual iPhone event.
