The Campus Administration of Medical Sciences (RCM) at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) today confirmed that it has received a notification from the Accreditation Council for Higher Medical Education (ACGME) regarding the accreditation of the Neurosurgery Residency Program at the College of Medicine. .
“Immediately, we began a detailed evaluation of the report and a meeting was already coordinated with the ASEM Director to develop a coordinated and collaborative action plan. I confirm that there are elements contained in the report that were addressed. The campus of medical sciences is committed to the neurosurgery program, which is why this is a priority on our agenda, ”stated the written statements, Dr Wanda Maldonado, Interim President of the RCM.
The campus administration assured that they will appeal the accredited decision and that, in the process, they have the support of the central administration of the University of Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rico Medical Services Administration (ASEM) and the central government.
Today, the Chair of the UPR, Dr. George Haddock and the interim chair of the Regional Coordination Mechanism, held several follow-up meetings with faculty and residents of the program.
“For the University of Puerto Rico, restoring accreditation for the Neurosurgery program on the campus of Medical Sciences is a matter of top priority given what it represents to the institution and to the island. Although accreditation of academic programs is a direct responsibility of the campus and units, we have participated in the central administration of the UPR in This process and we made many specific recommendations. ”Dr Haddock, Chair of the UPR, said,“ We extend all support to the Medical Sciences Campus and its university community to continue achieving the distinguished educational mission that distinguishes our institution and that brings many benefits to the people of Puerto Rico. ”
The auditor notice cannot be issued because the agency prohibits its distribution and publication.
