Giannelli said the patient, who was “in good health” and did not suffer from any disease, was kept in the hospital under strict surveillance for 24 hours and then discharged.

The mistake was made by a healthcare worker who accidentally filled a syringe with a full vial of vaccine, which contains a total of six doses. Shortly after taking the medication, the nurse realized what had happened.

“He saw five empty syringes and realized his mistake,” said Giannelli. He added that doctors would continue to monitor the patient’s immune response to the “huge vaccine dose.”

As a trainee in the psychology department of the hospital, the student has the right to receive vaccination before the rest of her age group. The media official said that an investigation had been opened, but added that “it may have been a human error, and it was certainly not on purpose.”
