Three people were killed and at least 30 were injured when a boat capsized off the coast of San Diego, California, on Sunday. Authorities said they believed he was transferring undocumented immigrants to the United States who were going without security measures amid heavy waves.
Authorities said the crash happened at 10:27 a.m. (US Western time), 13 minutes after the first patrol arrived at the scene.
Authorities said most of the injured, some with injuries caused by hypothermia and others from boat debris, were rushed to health centers in the area. It is not known whether they were men, women or children.
Firefighters also pointed out planes flying over the area in search of the Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection other victims.
About 93 people, including medical personnel, have been deployed to the rescue, officials said.
The identities of the dead and the persons transferred to hospitals are not yet known.
