Which states and cities are threatened by blizzards in the US? How long do they last?

(CNN Spanish) — A new storm is threatening to bring rain and snow to the western United States this Friday and Saturday, prompting rare blizzard warnings for California.

Below is a review of the locations that will be affected over the next few hours.

California

“If everyone in California looks in the right direction, we should be able to see snow starting later this week.” According to Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles. “Snow (fall) is not yet possible in major California cities, but it will fall very close,” he explained.

For example, the Sierra Nevada Mountains could record snow accumulations of up to 1.8 from Friday through Saturday.

St. Bernard’s

San Diego’s National Weather Service issued its first blizzard warning, saying mountains in San Bernardino County could get 1 to 1.5 meters of snow by Saturday morning.

Los Angeles and Ventura

“This storm system will be unusually cold and the amount of snow will be very low. In fact, areas very close to the Pacific coast and inland valleys that aren’t used to seeing snow, you could see some snow,” the National Weather Service said early Friday.

Conditions are expected to begin improving by Friday night as the storm moves south.

In Nevada, a blizzard warning has also been issued for northwestern Nye County, which will remain in effect until early Saturday morning.

“Visibility will be zero with heavy snow and winds gusting to 97 km/h,” the weather service warned.
