Since the emergence of the omigran variant of the SARS-COV-2 virus, as reported to the population, epidemiological surveillance activities in our country on international travelers have increased, with emphasis on those from countries that have reported cases of this variant.
On November 27, a traveler, a health worker, flew from Mozambique, unscathed, to his home province of Pinar del Rio. On November 28, he presented with a low-grade fever and sore throat, and immediately went to the Health Area, where he was tested positive for antigen and entered according to the protocol established at Leon Guerrero Rubio Hospital. On the same day, RT-PCR was performed, resulting in SARS-COV-2, and the sample was sent to the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine for sequencing. Five days after the patient’s evolution in the hospital, an evolutionary PCR-RT is performed, which is negative and he is discharged asymptomatic.
The sequence of the positive model was decided yesterday, which confirms the Omicron variant. SARS-COV-2. As a result of the epidemiological study, 16 additional resident and two intra-familial contacts were identified, which were asymptomatic and negative for the performed RT-PCR.
Epidemiological surveillance is maintained in communications, strengthening community and international health control measures.
