Nicaragua’s President-elect Daniel Ortega has been announced

Nicaragua’s Supreme Electoral Council (CSE) on Friday announced Daniel Ortega and his wife Rosario Murillo as president and vice president.

The decision comes after the November 7 election in question. The official newspaper La Gaceta announced that the CSE had elected 91 members of the National Assembly and 20 representatives of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen).

The report shows that 65.26% of the candidates were elected through “broad-based citizen participation”, although the citizen who oversees Uranus Aberdeas, who is not approved by the government, is estimated to have not voted more than 81%.

Daniel Ortega, 76, was re-elected for the third time with 75.8% of the vote, running for a fourth consecutive term on January 10, 2022, according to official ballot results. This will be Murillo’s second term as vice president. . In this election, the ruling Sandinista Front increased its 91 seats in the National Assembly from 70 to 75. Of the remaining seats, 10 seats were left to the Constitutional Liberal Party (PLC), the other six were distributed to four minority forces and classified as “collaborators”.

“Nicaragua’s Supreme Electoral Council highlights the exemplary development of the entire process of the 2021 general election, where free, fair and transparent elections were effectively guaranteed for all Nicaraguans,” the report said.

More than 50 countries, including 27 and 25 OAS member states from the European Union, are unaware of the legitimacy of the election, arguing that between June and October this year, seven presidential loyalists were imprisoned and are still in prison.

Elected representatives to the National Assembly will take office on January 9, and Ordega and Murillo will take office on January 10.
