More than 50 tour operators from Tanzania Mainland, the Isles, and the US will hold seminars in Dar es Salaam and Arusha on marketing Destination Tanzania for the US market involving discussion of issues related to tourism sector.

 

According to Dr Aloyce Nzuki, Managing Director, Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), the key speaker will be Lisa Simon, President of the North America National Tour Association (NTA).

He told The Guardian on Sunday this week that the Dar es Salaam seminar will take place at the Peacock Hotel on January 16 while the Arusha one will be at Kibo Palace Hotel on January 18.

“As TTB we invite tour operators from US to exchange ideas with Tanzanian counterparts on how to obtain the US market, to learn on US market and what American travellers need while in Tanzania.

And “what they prefer in terms of sports, how we can make booking for US travelers and how to have a comprehensive strategy for US market so they can receive more tourists from US.

So it’s a time for operators to use this chance to obtain comprehensive strategy to help them market Tanzania.” he said.

Dr Nzuki is expected to deliver a keynote address on issues affecting the tourism industry in Tanzania and encourage local operators to exchange ideas with US colleagues on comprehensive strategy to help them market Tanzania as tourist destination in the US.

“As MD, I encourage them to talk to US tour operators, ask them what they think could help to get more tourists from US, ask what sports they like, learn how they operate their work, how they can collaborate to bring tourists to Tanzania, how they can have good plan for the US market as well.

While in the country, the visitors will the Ngorongoro Crater and other tourist attractions in the country. “As you know, Tanzania has many tourist attractions such as Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, Zanzibar, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Victoria and Arusha National Park.

Other issues to be discussed during the seminars include overview of the contribution of tourism to the global economy, profile of various market segments like adventure travellers, luxury market, student and youth, baby boomers, mature American statistics on US travel to Africa in general and to Tanzania in particular.

Others are assessment of Africa as a brand, and Tanzania as a brand in correlation with these markets, overview of the US travel trade and its distribution system as well as NTA.

“Tanzania Tourist Board and Tanzania Confederation for Tourism are coordinators of the preparations for hosting the seminars in Arusha and Dar es Salaam, to be preceded by a technical meeting of directors of tourism and chief executives of tour companies.
