Cubans continue to emigrate to almost any country, whether to the United States, Spain or Uruguay, among the first. Recent figures show that Cubans in this Caribbean country are the second citizens with the greatest access to local citizenship.

Venezuelans, Cubans, Colombians and Russians top the list of naturalizations granted in the Dominican Republic during the first half of 2024, according to official data from the Ministry of Interior and Police, and extensive media Pressing.

Between January and March 2024, 116 new nationalities were granted, including 22 to Venezuelans, 13 to Colombians, 11 to Cubans, and 10 to Russians.

In the second quarter, the number of naturalizations rose to 131, with 25 Cubans, 22 Venezuelans, 14 Colombians and 11 Russians obtaining Dominican citizenship. In total, during the first semester, at least until March of this year, 36 Cubans obtained Dominican citizenship.

The local press has pointed out the situation in these two countries, Venezuela and Cuba, where the number of citizenships granted in the Dominican Republic is constantly increasing. They stated that the increase in the number of naturalizations can be linked to the current conditions in these countries.

They point out from the Dominican Republic that Cubans are the second citizens, after Venezuelans, who have the greatest access to Cuisinean citizenship.

“Cuba remains under a restrictive political system, with limited economic and social opportunities, which prompts many Cubans to emigrate in search of greater freedom and better living conditions,” they point out in the Diario Libre de Dominicana.
